My Philosophy: Curiosity, Character, Craft
↗ Formspace Building Design is a multi-award-winning, client-focused building design practice founded by Sean Kirkland.
My work is inspired by rugged landscapes, natural and modest materials, sculpted building forms, and the creation of individual spaces that feel considered, expressive and personal.
↘ Did you know the elements that make up the definition of design? there is form, then there is space.
Within the classical elements of art and design, form describes volume, mass and three-dimensional presence. Space describes the field in which form exists. Within it, around it, between it and beyond it. Neither can be understood entirely without the other.
These are fundamental conditions of perception.
Form gives space definition. Space gives form context.
Together, they influence proportion, scale, movement, light, balance, enclosure and the way the human body experiences its surroundings. Almost every act of design can ultimately be traced back to this relationship: the placement of something, and the space created because of it.
Formspace is the intersection of these two elemental ideas. The physical and the intangible, presence and absence, object and void. It is, in its simplest sense, the foundation from which design begins.
